Idukki Monsoon Tourism


Kerala, famed as ‘God’s own Country’, in present times, is gaining importance for being one of the best monsoon tourism destinations. A large number of monsoon tourist packages are being designed for the travelers to experience the splendid natural beauty of Kerala during this season. In Kerala, the rain is never the same when it casts its spell over the meadows, the slopes, the sea, the sand and the mountains.

Visiting Kuttikkanam, a small village in Idukki, during the monsoon season, is especially wonderful. The entire surroundings of the Idukki district become majestic with the touch of lavish rains.  The monsoon season in Idukki marks the celebration of food fairs, where an array of mouthwatering cuisines, a large number of adventure activities and photo exhibitions are hosted. A large number of cultural and art performances take place in the large public auditoriums.

The climate in the beautiful Idukki district changes as one moves from East to West. The Eastern part of this district is located on the highlands featuring cold climate ranging from 5°C to 15°C between the months of March and April and minus 1°C to 15°C from November to January. The Idukki district is said to receive a huge amount of rain during both the South- West and North- East monsoon.

The annual rainfall experienced by Idukki district varies from 250 to 425 cms. The Western region in comparison to the North- Western and Eastern region gets  more rainfall. Devikulam, Vellathooval, Munnar and Pallivasal are amongst some of the prominent places where one can experience high amount of rainfall.
